Armed Group Reports
In Iraq, there are various armed groups, including ISIS, other Sunni groups, and Shiite and Kurdish groups, some of which are considered adversaries by neighbouring Iran and Turkey.
They tend to mobilize in different regions of Iraq as battlegrounds, where regional groups are also present. Violence in Iraq is often used as a political strategy to promote the interests of conflicting parties.
The overwhelming armed strength of Iraqi tribes, which regularly engage in violent battles with each other, adds to the situation's complexity, especially in central and southern Iraq, where the critical oil reserves are based.
